Ninteenth century portrait of a woman
Before, During and After Restoration

Before Restoration After

It measures 72" tall by 16" by 16" around. All remnants of the paint are totally gone. The entire terra cotta surface is heavily pitted with significant losses. The arm broke off at the shoulder, the flag and flagpole are all gone except for the finial for the end of the pole.

We estimate a total of around 100 hours will be required to fully restore it.

BEFORE...
This is a 72" terra cotta sculpture of Jeanne d'Arc.

Terra cotta statue of Jeanne d'Arc. It was originally polychromed (painted) with flesh colored skin, silver armor, a blue painted skirt with gold fleurs de lis, and she carried a flag inscribed in Latin.

The moldy painting above is an Ida Kohlmeyer. While not submerged, it was covered in mold within days of the flood by simply being exposed to the extreme humidity.

Before Restoration - Back

Before Restoration--
This pier table, along with it's 8 foot pier mirror, was submerged under 8 feet of water for 3 weeks. 99% of the decorative moulding was destroyed, the joints swelled open, and the finish and gesso dissolved completely and went back to the bare wood.

WORKS IN PROGRESS...

This landscape is by David Noll - It was submerged in flood waters and when it dried it caused the canvas to shrink and tear.

PREVIOUSLY RESTORED WORKS DAMAGED BY HURRICANE KATRINA...
Sadly, these pieces had been fully restored by NOCG in 2004. The before photos (above) show the pieces after their treatment, and this is what Katrina did to them:
